OUR STORY
She Believes She Can CIC (SBSC) was founded in response to a reality too often ignored: many women are surviving abuse, housing instability, and homelessness in silence unseen by systems and unsupported by services not built for their realities.
“SBSC began with lived experience, not theory.”
Cynthia Kesignton, Founder of She Believes She Can
Our founder migrated to the UK as a teenager and spent years navigating housing instability before later surviving domestic abuse where leaving was neither simple nor safe. Like many women, she stayed because housing insecurity made escape feel impossible. Safety was conditional. Support was inconsistent. When homelessness followed, it did not always look like sleeping on the streets, it looked like sofa-surfing, staying quiet, enduring unsafe situations, and holding it together on the surface while everything underneath was unravelling.
That experience revealed a critical truth: hidden homelessness among women is widespread, misunderstood, and often invisible to official systems. Women are routinely forced into impossible choices between abuse and homelessness, and many are denied support because their experiences do not fit narrow definitions of need. SBSC was created to challenge this reality and close that gap.
OUR PURPOSE
Founded in 2023, She Believes She Can CIC exists to support women aged 18 and over who are experiencing, or at risk of, hidden homelessness particularly those impacted by domestic and sexual abuse through trauma-informed, dignity-led support rooted in lived experience.
OUR IMPACT
Since launch, SBSC has grown from a lived-experience vision into a trusted community organisation. We have secured funding from The National Lottery Community Fund and the GLL Physical Activity Inclusion Fund, delivered structured programmes supporting hundreds of women, and built strong partnerships across housing, health, wellbeing, and community sectors.
Our work consistently demonstrates one core truth: when women are met with belief, safety, and continuity, lasting change becomes possible.
